Sauk Rapids Government Center

The Sauk Rapids Government Center includes spaces to accommodate city hall offices, police department and the city council chambers. Also included is a community space of 2,500 SF with a service kitchen, projection screens and storage space. A large public gathering space connects the council chambers, city offices, police department and community room. The gathering space will house displays of city history, projects and growth.

Completion: 2012

The Sauk Rapids Government Center was completed in 2012. The project included the programming of all spaces and the study of three vary different site options. Site options were studied in the downtown area, the south quadrant and the ultimate site in the northeast quadrant of the core are. The building features expansive south facing glass that allows abundant natural light into the community room and the council chambers. The transparency of these spaces is reflected back to the community by allowing the various activities within the space to be seen by day and by night.

The building features a central atrium or lobby space that serves as a gathering space to the council chambers and the community room. City hall offices are easily identified at the end of the lobby with the police department located just around the corner. The building features and number of sustainable design features including:

Drainage collection and ponding system
Natural light harvesting for interior spaces
High effeciency HVAC equipment
Occupancy sensor lighting and plumbing fixtures
High R-value insultation in the wall and roof systems

This facility has been highly successful in meeting the needs of the City and the community of Sauk Rapids.
