About the people

HMA Architects has a staff of extremely dedicated and talented people. The firm president, Murray Mack, has been with the firm since its founding in 1988. Many of the staff have been with the firm for over 10 years, some for many years beyond that. The continuity of staff gives our clients the best possible service from project programming through the completion of construction.

Your project type will determine the best team within our office to assist you with the design and construction of your particular and unique space needs. We bring our creative talents to every project and utilize state of the art software such as REVIT, 3D Studio MAX, Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop and other tools to help you visualize the project throughout every phase of the design process. Our entire team is dedicated to our process and project success.

Murray A. Mack, AIA, LEED AP

President / Firm Principal

As the founding principal and sole owner of the firm, Murray is responsible for overall office management with an emphasis on project programming and design. He has over 30 years of experience. His philosophy of excellence in design and high quality service throughout all phases of a project are instilled to all members of the project team. He is experienced in a wide variety of project types with an emphasis in projects demanding unique and creative design planning. More Information

Dean Stienessen

Senior Project Manager

Dean has 30 years of experience in the architectural industry. He has been with HMA for 20 years. His primary involvement on projects is in design development, construction documents, and construction phase services. Dean has a wide range of experience in unique building types such as new and remodeled movie theatres in a number of states. He also has significant expertise in small to medium size commercial, commercial remodeling, low-income housing, large market rate multi-family housing, and third party commercial real estate site inspections. More Information

Sue Mack

Office Manager

Sue has been responsible for the financial management of the firm for over 20 years.  Her responsibilities include payroll, office policy, personnel and employee benefits. For information on any of these matters Sue will be more than helpful in resolving your questions. More Information

Samantha Gaslin

Revit Technician

Sam is a Revit Technician who joined the firm in 2016. She earned an Associates degree of Architectural Construction Technology at Saint Cloud Technical & Community College, and brought knowledge of Revit and other technical skills. She is involved in many of our projects from a technical standpoint, and is always eager to learn something new. More Information

Dan Stein

Revit Technician

Dan is a Revit Technician who joined the firm in 2017. He is a graduate from the Anoka Technical College with an Associate’s degree in Architectural Technology. As a Revit Technician, he will apply his knowledge of commercial design to aide in the assembly of construction documents. More Information

Tom Peck, CSI

Senior Project Architect

Tom's expertise in the design and technical aspects of project development is instrumental in the administration of various projects and as a resource for office staff. With over 30 years of experience, Tom specializes in design development, code analysis, construction documents and construction administration. He has a significant background in government work having completed a number of projects with the National Guard Bureau (NGB) and the Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC).  More Information

Tim Gillet

Project Architect

Tim is a registered architect and project manger for HMA and has been with the firm since 2000. He is experienced in a wide variety of project types. He has particular expertise in theatres and auditoriums, office facilities, renovations, interior build-outs, and medical/healthcare related spaces. Tim has particular expertise in healthcare design having worked with CentraCare and other medical projects types. His knowledge of this project type and specific health department requirements is invaluable.  More Information

Architectural Intern

John is an Architectural Intern who joined the firm in 2014. John is involved in many of our projects from a design and technical standpoint. He has extensive experience in REVIT software and adds to our technical abilities to bring Building Information Modeling (BIM) to our clients. He brings a wealth of new ideas and experiences from his recent graduation from North Dakota State University. John is very excited about beginning his career in architecture. More Information

Revit Technician

Sean is a Revit Technician who joined the firm in 2017. He is graduate from Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College with an Associate’s degree in Architectural Commercial Design. Mike Juhl, AIA

Project Architect

Mike is a Project Architect with over 20 years of experience. He is experienced in a variety of project types, particularily large municipal and MnSCU projects. He has a wealth of experience on large and complex addition and remodeling projects. As with the other project managers, Mike works closely with our consultants in the areas of structural, mechanical, electrical, and site design to ensure high quality coordination of the various disciplines during design and construction. Angela Boyle, EDAC

Interior Designer

Angela is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a masters degree in Interior Design. She is involved in all aspects of the design phases in the office including programming, pre-design, materials and colors selection and furniture coordination. Angela also has experience with evidence-based design and various research methodologies in healthcare settings. She works closely with our clients in all areas of the interior design process to ensure exceptional coordination from pre-design through the construction phase.More Information
